Sharing Visions Resource Sharing 2024 Virtual Conference - Thursday, March 28, 2024: 1:00pm - 3:30pm

This conference brings together library practitioners and others interested in resource sharing developments for learning and sharing. The program is free and open to attendees from all types of libraries. This event was held virtually on Zoom.

Introducing the Revised Interlibrary Loan Code for the United States, 1:05 - 2:05 pm

The newly revised Interlibrary Loan Code for the United States with Explanatory Text is in effect and establishes principles that govern the exchange of material between libraries in the United States. Members of the ALA RUSA STARS Codes, Guidelines, and Technical Standards Committee will explore the purpose and structure of the ILL Code, an overview of the revision process, and what has changed.

Resource Sharing at the Internet Archive, 2:15 - 3:15 pm

Join librarian Chris Freeland for an exploration of the Internet Archive, a digital library that serves researchers everywhere through its mission of providing, “Universal Access to All Knowledge.” In this session, Chris will delve into the library's services, both existing and new, that make it a critical resource for researchers, students, and anyone seeking access to information online. He will take a detailed walk through the Internet Archive’s resource sharing activities, controlled digital lending (CDL) and new efforts to implement protocol-based ILL with ISO 18626. Chris will also cover the lawsuit against the Internet Archive by four publishers, including the implications of the lawsuit and its impact on the wider library community.

Chris Freeland is the Director of Open Libraries at the Internet Archive, working in support of the organization's mission to provide "Universal access to all knowledge." Before joining the Internet Archive Chris was an Associate University Librarian at Washington University in St. Louis, managing the library's digital initiatives and related services. He holds an M.S. in Biological Sciences from Eastern Illinois University and an M.S. in Library and Information Science from the University of Missouri-Columbia. His research explores the intersections of science and technology in a cultural heritage context, having published and presented on a variety of topics relating to the use of new media and emerging technologies in libraries and museums.
