Public Library Annual Survey

About Section 11

OLIS aims to use Section 11 to explore special topics in more depth than the rest of the survey allows. The topics will rotate each year, allowing OLIS to develop longitudinal datasets on a variety of topics.

  • 2023: Employment Frameworks
  • 2024: Boards, Foundations, and Capital Needs
  • 2025: Additional Library Services

FAQs

Q: What denotes private events (for #11.8 Does the library allow any of its facilities to be used for private events?)? Is it simply that an event may not be open to the general public? Or is the question mean "private" as in "for profit"?

A: The intent of this question is to understand if a library rents out any of its facilities after hours for private events, such as weddings. Whether renting out the library generates profit for the library is not the intended focus of the question.

Q: A non-profit organization, separate from the library but with a nationally recognized Adult Literacy Program, works in the library to train volunteers to tutor adults with limited English literacy skills. The library does budget to donate programming funds to the group. Should I mark “Yes” for #11.11 Does the library offer ESL/ESOL classes?

A: No. This question is asking specifically about ESL/ESOL classes offered by a certified instructor on a regular, scheduled basis. Instead, include this information in #11.14, which asks about other services or programs the library offers to patrons.

Q: Should I include printing/copying as a service in #11.14

A: No. Printing/copying services are a standard service offered by all libraries.
