Rhode Island Statewide Summer Reading Program

OLIS sponsors the Summer Reading Program, a cooperative effort among libraries in Rhode Island to motivate children and teens to read for pleasure and to help them maintain reading skills during the summer months. The Summer Reading Program also encompasses adult programs that encourage adults to explore new genres, pursue new interests, and model lifelong learning and reading to children and teens. OLIS is a member of the Collaborative Summer Library Program, a national collaboration of state library agencies and associations that works to develop materials that support a high-quality summer reading program for children, teens, and adults. The statewide Rhode Island Summer Reading Program is supported by the RI Office of Library and Information Services, with funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Reporting Statistics to OLIS

Statistics collection for the children's and young adult  Summer Reading Program will take place August 9th – September 30th. There will be one online survey for collecting children's and YA program numbers, and libraries will be asked to designate one staff member to submit one form for both programs. Completion of the statistics collection is required to receive 2020 SRP materials. There will be a separate survey for collecting statistics for the adult program.

Credit Line

Using IMLS funding, OLIS provides public libraries with CSLP manuals and vouchers to purchase CSLP licensed materials for planning and promoting the Summer Reading Program. Libraries that have received a manual and voucher, and that use any CSLP materials (including the slogan and artwork) must use the following credit line on ALL SRP signs, press releases, posters, websites and promotions. Libraries may personalize this credit line by adding the library’s name and the names of local sponsors at the end:
